When it comes to 3D printing and materials, you can take personalization and customization to the next level with a variety of finishes, ranging from natural textures to a high polish. Additionally, some materials can be dyed to achieve your desired color, allowing for even more control over the final appearance of your project. This flexibility ensures that your 3D printed parts meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.

Natural

This is as it comes off the machine. Parts have a granular texture similar to an extra strong mint and is the roughest of all the finishes. Ideal for parts with thin walls, or finer details that may get damaged in the other processes.

Polished

Use our vibro polishing service to take the roughness away from the natural finish. The result takes the surface from the texture of an extra strong mint to a softmint/mentos. This process is both low cost and high impact, but can cause damage to delicate parts below 2mm wall thickness. It is ideal if you are looking to paint parts afterward.

Natural Dyed

This is using our DM60 deep dye machines – takes parts from their natural colour to black or other colours. Can be used in conjunction with all other finishing processes. Parts are coloured on the surface only and can be used for applications that involve skin contact.

Polished & Dyed

This is using our DM60 deep dye machines – takes parts from their natural colour to black or other colours. Can be used in conjunction with all other finishing processes. Parts are coloured on the surface only and can be used for applications that involve skin contact.

Colours available:

White, Black, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow or Custom (please enquire)

Shotpeen & Dyed

This uses our fleet of Dyemansion Powershot S’s – a less abrasive finish that provides a more premium satin/semi-gloss sheen to the parts. By far the best value for money finish we offer. More suitable than polishing for thinner walled and higher detailed parts.

Gold Plating

Gold Plating provides good corrosion and tarnish resistance. Gold has low contact resistance, excellent conductivity, and solderability.

Final Result:

  • Gold-like appearance

  • Increased corrosion and tarnish resistance

Silver Plating

Electroplating silver provides good corrosion resistance but easily tarnishes. Silver offers high solderability and electrical conductivity.

Final Result:

  • Silver-like appearance

  • Increased corrosion-resistance

  • Easily tarnishe

Anodising

Type II anodise provides increased corrosion resistance and can be used as a base for paint and other finishes.

  • Involves using dyes to affect the part’s surface colour

  • Type II coatings are susceptible to wear and may bleach or fade under prolonged direct sunlight

  • Possibility of requesting custom colours (RAL)

Powder coating

Provides a continuous, protective colour finish on parts using evenly applied, heat-cured paint. The finish is usually tougher and even compared to conventional painting.

Metals like aluminium and steel can be efficiently coated with polymer powders.

Bead blasting

Bead blasting involves spraying a pressurised stream of tiny beads of media, plastic or glass beads, from a nozzle onto the surface of the part. This removes the burrs and imperfections, leaving a smooth finish.

Ideal as a preliminary surface finish treatment for painting and dying. Bead blasting before anodising is also an ideal surface preparation, creating a non-reflective surface.

Final Result:

  • Slightly grainy in the touch

  • Uniform, matte or satin-like appearance

media tumbling

Tumbling vibrating media to remove sharp edges and burrs on machined parts.

Sharp edges may be dulled. Parts with fragile features are not recommended for tumbling.

Final Result:

  • Smooth in the touch

  • Satin-like matte appearance

Electropolishing

An electrochemical process that cleans steel parts to reduce corrosion and improve appearance by making the metal brighter.

Final Result:

  • Reduced corrosion

  • Brighter appearance
